Travellers accused of dumping toilet waste on kids' play zone

TOWN centre councillor John Beirne has accused a group of travellers of emptying the contents of several portable toilets onto a children's play area.

Residents of Fingerpost were appalled to find that waste from the toilets had been dumped on the kiddies' play zone in Nanny Goat Park last weekend.

According to Councillor Beirne, the travellers had just received an eviction notice to move from their base on Recreation Street.

He fumed: "What these travellers did was the most disgusting thing imaginable. They cause trouble everywhere they go but the police seem powerless to stop them. This is a very serious issue."

Cllr. Beirne says that the Aggravated Trespass Act should be enforced when travellers cause trouble and upset local residents.

And he says he is particularly annoyed at the travellers' actions because the council had provided them with a skip to put their rubbish in to save on the cost of clearing up when they move on.

He added: "Travellers have a right to choose how they live, but they should also respect the rights of council tax payers to live in a clean environment."
