Toddler was 'steering car'

A HORRIFIED motorist says she witnessed a man allow a little girl to sit on his lap and steer the wheel of a car on Tuesday afternoon.

The 41-year-old woman, who has asked not be named, was driving in the opposite direction of a silver car in Clinkham Wood, near to St David's Church, on Yewdale Avenue, when she noticed the toddler was behind the wheel.

She told the Star: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The girl, who was aged about three or four, was sitting on the man's lap -I presume it was her dad - she and was steering the wheel.

"There was a large funeral going on at the church and a lot of cars were parked around there.

"All it would have taken was for a car to pull out, or someone to walk out in the road and that girl would have been through the windscreen. I just want to make sure people are aware of safety issues."

A police spokeswoman said any motorist found to be committing such offences could face charges of careless driving or dangerous driving.
