Make it safe

I AM writing to you in the hope that you could show the public of St Helens that the local council do not care about the people of the town, especially in the area that I live.

The old Grange Park Labour Club has been demolished and left in a terrible state for the people who live in the immediate vicinity of the site. It is not securely fenced off and it is a serious danger, especially to the local yobs who frequent the site as one of them is going to end up in hospital or even worse.

I know it isn't the council's job to make it safe, it is the job of the owner of the land. The case officer concerned says he can only ask the owner to clean it up and make it safe. I believe that the council could and should be able to do more. This is a site for the local yobs and drug abusers to go about their business of making the local community live in fear and afraid to go out at night and now the dark nights are drawing in.

MUCH-concerned voter for a better and safer St Helens, (full name and address supplied)
